When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” (Matthew 8:16-17)
Many who were demon-possessed and sick were brought to Jesus, and He healed them all in fulfillment of what the prophet prophesied about Him in Isaiah 53:4.
“Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy].” Isaiah 53:4 AMPC version
As you read this piece of truth, you are one of us, and Christ took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses before we were born. God did this for us because He has never planned to create man in His image and then put sickness and infirmities in our bodies, so He made us for health. This was confirmed in 3 John verse 2, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” Jesus made a dual provision for us on the cross: for our spiritual healing (salvation of our souls) and physical healing in our body, even to prosper in all we do according to His will.
Prophet Isaiah prophesied it in Isaiah 53:5: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Matthew confirmed the fulfillment of it in Matthew 8:16-17 quoted above, and Peter also referenced this as confirmation of what Christ has already done for us, “By His stripes, ye were healed”
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
God knew that the devil would attack people with sickness, so He made provision for our healing through the stripes and the blood of Jesus. Acts 10:38 confirms in the Bible that sickness is oppression from the devil, which is why “Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power and went about doing good, healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him” Acts 10:38. Jesus is still healing now through us in His name. “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” (Mark 16:17-18
